Domus Academica, commonly known as Domma, was built in 1952 continuing also in 1968. Domma consists of two properties offering rental apartments, situated in a well-connected area in Kamppi. In addition to the apartments, Domus Academica also houses restaurant, student nation, and office spaces. The property features an underground connection to the neighboring Domus Gaudium and a parking garage.
Over the years, the building has housed not only student dorms but also a student library, university lecture and study rooms, but also a hostel. Today, the apartments are available for rent by everyone.
The dormitory was designed by architect Pauli Salomaa, while the original interior design and furniture were created by Ilmari Tapiovaara and his wife, Annikki Tapiovaara. Among the most famous pieces, the Domus chair, designed by Tapiovaara, has also gained international acclaim.
