The sustainability of Ylva’s property portfolio has been assessed using the internationally recognized BREEAM and LEED certifications for sustainable development.
The certifications were granted for both new construction and renovation projects as well as for the existing property portfolio.
These certifications transparently demonstrate the high level of responsibility in Ylva’s properties and enable the international comparability of their environmental impact.
“Over the last couple of decades, certifications have become an established method in the real estate sector to demonstrate the sustainability of properties, particularly in commercial buildings. While these certifications are not foolproof indicators of sustainability, they provide comparable metrics for international investors and tenants when evaluating properties,” explains Eelis Rytkönen, Ylva’s Chief Impact Leader.
The certifications awarded to Ylva’s properties achieved top scores in areas such as energy efficiency, access to natural daylight and views, location accessibility and services, water consumption management, and low-emission material choices.
Below is a list of certifications awarded to Ylva’s property portfolio:
- Lyyra Apartments and Hotel: LEED Platinum Core & Shell v4
- Hotel Grand Hansa and Armaan Kulma: LEED Platinum Commercial Interiors Hospitality v4
- Kaivopiha Properties: BREEAM Very Good International Commercial In-Use v6
- Leppäsuonkatu 9 – Hietaniemenkatu 14: BREEAM Very Good International In-Use Commercial V6
- Leppätalo: LEED Gold Operations and Maintenance: Existing Buildings v4.1
As the list indicates, interpreting these certifications requires specialized expertise, as there are various certification types covering both design and operational phases. Certifications are continually evolving, pushing legislation and the real estate sector toward greater sustainability. The latest updates can be explored here: LEED and BREEAM.
Further insights into certifications and extensive comparisons can be found in a 2018 joint article published by the Danish Building Research Institute and an architecture firm.
The Finnish Green Building Council (FiGBC) also maintains a site dedicated to the most commonly used certifications in Finland.
