Mika Perkiö Appointed as CEO of Ylva

A new chapter begins for the tomorrow’s Helsinki: Ylva, overseeing the real estate and restaurant business of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki, has appointed Mika Perkiö as its new CEO. Perkiö will assume the position on November 27, 2024.
With extensive and versatile experience in finance and executive leadership, MBA Mika Perkiö brings a wealth of expertise to his new role as Ylva’s CEO. Previously, Perkiö has held positions such as CFO, CEO, and board member in various companies, including DEN Group Oy, Delete Oy, Sataservice Oy, and Machinery Oy.
“Perkiö impressed Ylva’s board with his diverse experience in managing complex financial and corporate arrangements. His references and recommendations from previous employers are outstanding. Additionally, his proven track record in leadership and collaboration with various stakeholders convinced the board during the decision-making process,” says Mika Heikkilä, Ylva’s Chair of Board.
Ylva’s major construction projects, the Lyyra block in Hakaniemi and the Grand Hansa in the city center, have been completed in prime locations in Helsinki. However, the real estate market in Finland remains challenging. Ensuring Ylva’s long-term operational security by improving debt servicing capacity is a core goal for the coming years, and this ambitious work will continue under Perkiö’s leadership. Ylva’s strategy remains firmly rooted in sustainable and responsible business practices.
“Ylva has a remarkable history in responsible urban development and a dynamic real estate and restaurant business. However, the current operating environment is highly demanding. My extensive experience in navigating challenging problem-solving situations will be invaluable in this new role,” says Perkiö.
The decision to appoint Mika Perkiö was made at a board meeting on November 20. Additionally, the Representative Council of the Student Union of the University (HYY) of Helsinki decided on November 26 to appoint Perkiö, like previous Ylva CEOs, to the role of CFO for HYY as well.
