The Lyyra city block under construction at the site of Kallio’s old office buildings will bring numerous new services and restaurants to the local residents’ doorstep. For example, Lyyra will feature a food court developed by the entrepreneur behind Fafa’s that offers a trial platform for whole new taste experiences.
The first service providers of the Lyyra city block, currently rising in the corner of Toinen linja and Porthaninkatu, have now been announced. Among others, establishments housed at Lyyra will include Kakkugalleria, known for its handcrafted confectionaries, urban noodle restaurant Fat Ramen and, for some local sports atmosphere, 3-0 Sports Bar.
A particularly interesting restaurant arrival is UG, a food court on Lyyra’s ground floor that focuses on high-quality street food. It is not only a new kind of food court but also a trial platform offering novice restauranteurs a low-threshold opportunity to try out their ideas. Behind the concept is Doron Karavani, founder of the Fafa’s chain.
“UG will be offering flavours and food experiences you cannot find anywhere else in the city. The space has facilities for a total of five restaurants, four of which are reserved as trial platforms for brand-new restauranteurs. We offer the equipment and facilities so the restaurants can focus on what is important – serving delicious food,” Karavani says.
The restaurant experience at UG is fully digital. Ordering and payments are conveniently done on a mobile device, and customers can place food and drinks orders with different restaurants at the same time. The facility design is Amerikka’s work.
Finland’s first Citybox hotel is opening at Lyyra
In addition to the restaurant services, Lyyra will feature a Kesko convenience store and the first Citybox hotel in Finland, offering functional and affordable high-quality accommodation to people visiting Helsinki. Office space tenants include, for example, recruitment service providers Duunitori. The third building in the Lyyra block is reserved for rental apartments.
“Renting has progressed well despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and we will be announcing even more restaurants, services and office tenants who have secured a place at Lyyra. I believe that its excellent location directly above a metro station and the flexibility of a newbuild in terms of facility solutions, in particular, are Lyyra’s trumps in relation to what else is available in the area,” relates Ylva’s Real Estate Director Ville Vaarala.
Responsibility has been considered particularly carefully in the project. The carbon footprint of Lyyra’s life cycle has been assessed, and ambitious targets have been set for the utilisation of materials and reducing the buildings’ footprint. A LEED Platinum certification – the highest level of the internationally recognised system – will be sought for Lyyra’s facilities. In addition, the facilities aim for energy class A, the highest possible class as determined by the Finnish Ministry of the Environment.
Alongside sustainable choices, also social responsibility has been paid attention to on the worksite. Lyyra is involved in the Inclusive Construction Site project, which is one of the pilot projects of the OECD’s Business 4 Inclusive Growth coalition. Ylva is the only Finnish participant in the international coalition of 35 companies doing groundbreaking work towards a more responsible market economy.
